hello, i want to know how significant is research during dental school for the career of the future dentist? some schools like NYU and harvard offer a summer research program for upcoming students to do research either dental or non dental research. How will this help the student? its usually a non-pay thing, so does it aid in getting a residency position? , and how important is getting an abstract or a paper published? thx

it will not help your career as a future dentist. it may help getting matched into a residency, as specific programs are very research-oriented.
