research and shadowing

Can I do all my reasearch and shadowing in one summer(dedicating the whole summer to it) or does it have to be spread out throughout my college years?

I did research for a surgeon for a while, and then asked him if I could shadow after I had demonstrated my uber skillz. He was more than happy to have me along. Kill two birds w/ one stone and do this.

I don't see a problem with it as long as you get a nice amount of experience between the both.

Yes you can- but remember to be volunteering throughout college...

If you're applying for a regular MD, it probably doesn't matter. If you're applying for an MD/PhD or a research MD program, one summer is probably not enough to show a sustained research interest or experience.
