Hey guys,
I hope I am posting in the right forum here. I am a senior at a U.S. allopathic medical school and getting ready for the match. I am applying for radiology. I am quite optimistic about my chances of matching (18 radiology programs) but you know how neuroticism sets in at this time of the year. So just to be on the safe side I am also thinking about ranking some prelim programs at the end of my primary rank order list so that at least I will hopefully have a one year position.
However, I was thinking if I were to not include the prelim programs, would I be able to find a research position (preferably in rads but I guess anything is better than nothing) somewhere given such a short period of time (from match day till the summer)? Also would they have stipends or should I find other ways to support myself? I am sure most do but I don't know how large the stipends are.
As of now my plan has been to go to a prelim if it comes down to it. This way I will keep my options open in case a position opens up that I could take since I won't be a U.S. senior any more next year. Also I will possibly be able to find a good research project for the year after my intern year in case I have to reapply and match for radiology for 2013.
Since you guys here know more than me about research, I appreciate any feedback!
Thanks...
