I'm starting my first year of medical school in the fall, and had a question about travelling!
My major was biology, and this summer I was supposed to do research with a professor of mine. However, I would much rather go to Europe with my girlfriend!!

Before making my decision, I wanted to know if losing this research experience would hinder my chances for residency at all? For example, maybe I would be able to get better research positions later on in medical school if I keep my position this summer?

Thanks for your input!

Keep in mind also that I don't have any research experience at all!
Would it still be wise for me to go on this trip?

Yes, and again, it is not even a close call.

The only way to make it close is if you knew what you wanted to go into and were doing research with someone in that field and it was relatively promising, publication, exposure etc.

This is a no brainer. Go on vacation! Medical school will engulf your life soon enough. Enjoy your last month as a normal person with no worries.
