Hi. I am starting med school Sept '09 and am interested in doing research this summer. I know everyone says "relax" but I've been relaxing all semester and would really like to do some interesting research over the summer. I was thinking of calling my med school and asking them if I could do research there. Has anyone done research at their med school the summer before their first year, and how did you go about obtaining the position? Thanks for your help 🙂

I did. My medical school has a summer research fellowship program that students can do between 1st and 2nd year. It was also available for incoming students. I found a project I liked, met with the mentor, applied, was accepted, and got paid to do research the summer before I started. 👍

Call the medical school's office and see if they have something similar. Deadlines are coming up, so don't delay!

Calling is the best way to find out, and it can't hurt anything. If you're interested, give them a call.
