Hello there! I’m a current applicant this cycle and was hoping to talk to someone who is applied/is applying for a research track fellowship. Any help appreciated
As someone certain in entering academics and research, I was wondering if the extra year of training is worth delaying becoming an attending.
Also, how competitive are these programs? At some point I would prefer a one year clinical fellowship at a good program over doing a two year research track at a sub-par program.
The answer is generally no, as there's barely enough time in a regular residency to train you, and you're really missing out on time to make money.
What type of research are we talking about? There are programs with a second year that lets you do an educational training in clinical informatics or something handwavey, while using you as a "super-fellow" for a normal fellow's salary.
