Here's a stab at it....

CENTRAL QUESTION - Does Diffusion MRI help for stroke?

1. Basic Science Research - characterize diffusion MRI in rodent model of stroke under clinically-impossible conditions more suitable to real hypothesis testing

2. Translational Research - does diffusion MRI in rodents under clinically-defined conditions still have utility?

3. Clinical Research - does diffusion MRI of stroke patients at 3 hrs detect ischemic stroke?

4. Outcomes Research - does diffusion MRI improve 6-month morbidity and mortality versus CT in human patients with ischemic stroke?

5. Patient Oriented Research (??) - is diffusion MRI more tolerable than CT for stroke patients, or what ways can we improve patient tolerance of MRI?

Depends on the culture which is valued most but I would hazard 1 & 3 > 2 & 4 > 5 in terms of academic respect (from my perspective as an near-complete MD/PhD student...)
