I'm sure somewhere there is a thread on this, but since the search is down, I can't find it. I know a ton of pre-med's participate in research, but what kind of research do most people do? Chemistry research or biology research? Or even something else?

I do cancer research, even though its mostly biochme techniques, I guess its bio

I have a few different projects going on, so it's quite varied, some strictly medical stuff (research with a friend of mine about the frequency of misplaced ET tubes by paramedics), a medical ethics article on halting resuscitation efforts in the field when the patient doesn't respond to treatment, then of course there is my health psychology research into COPD and its management.

almost too few options on this poll... i think a lot of people (like me!) have done biochemistry research. also, a lot of chemistry research is geared towards bio... like finding molecules that restore function to mutated enzymes or creating delivery capsules to release things onto cancer cells. i guess i just think things often get too blurry to say "chem research" or "bio research." just thinking out loud i guess... cheers.

I've been involved in three:
1st) One of my profs mentioned in class that she was looking for RAs, I talked to her after class, visited the lab, and was "hired" (for free 😛 )
2nd) I asked my advisor if she knew anyone doing research in cross-cultural medicine, she gave me a prof's name and number, I called, met with her, agreed on a project
3rd) Looked on Stanford's website for a full-time research position, interviewed, hired

I came up with the ideas myself and took them to docs and PhD's who I felt would be interested in helping me pursue them.
