I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the military's reserve programs for physicians. I understand they have loan repayment and stipend programs for residents that don't require any active duty committment. Has anyone signed up for any of these? If so, how has the experience been?
Thanks

Every military reserve program requires active duty time....EVERY. Being reserve now allows the miltary to deploy you. What happens is the active duty staff gets sent off to their platform (sand, ship, Marines...) and you as the reservist goes and mans the hospital. Many times you go on one of the platforms with the active duty. It's a chance you take but the odds are high you WILL be activated. I think the reservist have it the worst. There is no telling how long their activated status will last. In the current environment reservist have been released only to be recalled to other platforms....

Choice is yours.

I agree. I would add the AFHPSP pays way more than the reservist package does. The latter also has a 2-for-1 year arrangement, vs. 1-for-1 when in the active duty counterpart.
