Residencies in California, North Carolina

I am a third year trying to get a handle on where I should be looking for residency Geographically, I'm very interested in NC and California. I'm curious about which programs are most desirable, and the kind of stats I need to get into the various programs.

Anyone who knows about those programs, please enlighten me regarding

Which have strong teaching and/or a solid clinical experience?
Which should be avoided?
What kind of boards, grades, etc would be expected?
