Hi,

I have a question that hopefully someone could address.

Which is better in terms of immediate and long-term job opportunity, a 2 yr. residency of a pharmD/MPH dual degree?

Thanks.

Hello,

I'm a resident and part time MPH student...as mentioned above, it really depends on your career goals although the MPH has really complemented my clinical training as a resident. The residency is providing me with the clinical skills I want while the MPH is going to give me experience in planning community-based interventions, provide me with theories on why pts behave the way they do so that we can change unhealthy behavior, improve my understanding of the health care system as a whole, etc...public health provides a more broad perspective to thinking through health problems vs the one-on-one time when caring for patients.
Hope this helps.

Thank you, onepharmer

Your input was helpful. I have thought it over and decided to go with the 2 yr. residency instead since I'm more interested in one-on-one patient care. Good luck on your endeavors.

Sincerely,
MEMS
