i just want to know when do you do your residencies? after dental school? or during dental school?
Jediwendell said:That wasn't making fun, that was utter confusion . Residencies are done after dental school
iambatman said:so after d. school, i can't start a practice right away? wtf!
how long is residency?
Make sure you go to a DDS school because DMD schools aren't accredited and so you can't get a license.north2southOMFS said:...Oh, those guys also get a DMD, not a DDS. (DMD = smart but with brick hands...

Residency is 2 years if you want to want work on front teeth only. Add an additional year if you also want to do back teeth. An additional cosmetic fellowship will allow you to do tooth-colored fillings and porcelain crowns.
Obviously most opt for the full 4 yrs of residency just because patients hate being referred to other dentists or specialists all the time. It really all depends what you want out of your career.
...or at least get ridiculed by a bunch of bored OMFS residents.north2southOMFS said:...In fact, you will probably become stupider just for reading this board.

i guess i came to the wrong place to get some info on what a residency really is. you punks need to get out more often...nobody else is laughing, just you lot!

Bifid Uvula said:Hott off the ADA newsletter... ADA scientific counsel, 4 out of 5 dentists voted to begin hearings on the educational crisis involved with DMD granting schools. Of issue, is the concern that DMD's don't believe in using autoclaves to sterilize instruments, that flossing is only important in diabetic patients, and the use of local anesthetic should be limited only for removal of teeth.
Jediwendell said:Listen, coming from a DMD I can tell you that autoclaves are the work of commies and don't let any of those DDS bozos tell you different.
Flossing is only important for getting roast beef from between your toothpick holes, and local anesthetic has fluoride in it which is obviously bad. Just see the latest issue of Time magazine.
DMD's have NO hands on classes in dental school.
That is why we all go on to be orthodontists.
That reminds me.....didn't you start your ortho residency this year? I hope it's everything you wanted. Better to figure it out now rather than 10 years down the road.Jediwendell said:DMD's have NO hands on classes in dental school.

But that's the only procedure that cures Perio anyway.Bifid Uvula said:...and the use of local anesthetic should be limited only for removal of teeth.
