So, I have a background in bioengineering. I really want to do regenerative medicine, and I was trying to pick an area. I recently decided on kidneys for various reasons, but I am not sure what I should do my residency on to get there. Any ideas?
Nephrology or urology would be the obvious choices.
The kidney is a tough organ from a regenerative medicine standpoint (much more structurally complex than a liver or heart, for example), but Anthony Atala at Wake Forest is doing some very cool stuff.
Thanks for the advice. I did read about his work before, and I am planning on doing some more research before I commit to an area. Also, I am pretty sure transplant surgery is not what I want to get into.
