Hey everyone,
I'm a m4 currently waiting for interviews like everyone else. Went to get my eye exam this afternoon and found out my depth perception is not as good as I thought. I only got 4-5/9 on the test, which correlates to 100-140 minutes of arc (normal is 40). A little surprised by this as I never thought I had a problem with depth perception before. I've done lab work where I've dissected out mouse corneas and mouse embryos and seemed to do fine. I assume this is due to the anisometropia I was diagnosed with today (OD +0.75, OS +3.00 +1.25), which I'm not too suprised by as I've known my right eye had better acuity for a while.
Anyway, any thoughts on how this should affect my decision to go into ophthy. I obviously do not want compromise the care of any patients by setting myself up to be a poor surgeon. My vision is good otherwise, no double vision, good acuity, and I am good working with my hands. Deciding on Ophthalmology was a difficult decision as there were a few other fields that I thought I could be happy with as well. Would anyone else consider switching if they were in my situation? Thanks for any input you have.
