Residency Interviews During COVID, Virtual or In-Person?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Talking to my friends in the medical section, residency interviews will be virtual via zoom or Skype. Any word about dental?

Have heard rumors that the same is happening for OMFS for the most part, but not fully confirmed.

I think it will be online this year, most externships for programs were already canceled.

Ditto on endo... all virtual so far. I'm not quite sure what the format is going to be. Previous interviews involved written exams, dexterity tests, and hands on endo/ diagnosis. I think it will be difficult to test these points virtually. Anyone have any thoughts?

I know for sure NYU Langone pedo is doing online only. I haven’t heard from any other pedo programs, but given the current circumstances I think it’s likely.

Programs won’t be able to afford to expose their residents and faculty to a group of people from all the place.

I’m just guessing. I don’t have a crystal ball. Just a janky ass magic 8-ball.

As of today, I am not doing preceptor or shadow experiences prior to interview day. Things could change later in the season.

I know my program (OMFS) is still doing in person, but we're limiting the number of interviewees [er day, and increasing the days (4-5 days instead of 2).

My Health network has gone all virtual due to continued travel restrictions, and to promote health and safety of staff, current residents, and patients. It will quite a different experience than we all are used to......but what hasnt lately?

Best of luck!
