residency location and how it impacts future career geography

i'm pretty much done with interview season and have a solid idea of my top 5. im from so cal originally and would very much like to return there eventually to practice, but my top 2 choices on my rank list are outside the state (one outside the region, in chicago) .

hwo big of a concern is this? i know the best jobs are word of mouth, but i see tons of open FM positions in the areas im interested in

I think it makes no difference for primary care jobs.
