any retakers yourself or someone you know have a success story?
This upcoming test will be my third mcat and I just hope that I won't screw it up like the last two times (20, and 22). good luck to all you retakers b/c it's almost becoming a big waste of lifetime to study for these exams over and over and over...i just want to be a freakin doctor.

you're gonna hear a lot of people saying success stories are pretty uncommon since multiple scores hardly differ. And you'll get the folks who add hyperlinks to the AAMC sites with statistics backing their claims.

Ignore them all. I know someone who got a 23 and retook the same year and scored a 30. No, he wasn't ill the first time, nor was he unprepared, nor did he incorrectly bubble in the answers.

Just be confident and you'll shine. good luck!

I had a friend who scored something like 25 or 26 on his first 2 tries, then got a 30 his third shot. I went from a 31 to a 37 also. Of course, as they say, these results are not typical...but they illustrate that fairly large jumps in scores are not impossible either.

Derf...you have just given me even more hope. Next 13 days are gonna be hell but it's only 13 days out of my life for something that can determine my future...

Thanks!

My brother made huge gains comparitively when he took the MCAT for the first time in August '03 to when he took it again in April '04. A jump from a 28 to a 35!! It certainly can be done. He explained to me that it was because of his relaxed attitude the second time around. He said he tried to have fun and not be too serious. In August he suggested that he was just too nervous and uptight. Attitude is everything.

I know a guy who took the MCAT 5 times, increased his score from 21, this is after taking it for his 3rd time, to 32 two years ago. It can be done. This guy is now a 2nd year in a top 40 school. I guess consistency does pay off in the end. It shows that you are motivated and really want to get in, plus it shows that you don't value having a life, and med schools dig that!
Well good luck for all you retakers. My recommendation being a retaker myself, increased my score by 2 point only though, is buy the EK diagnostic tests, they are new and are really helpful.

8V 12P 12B --> August 2003
11V 12P 12B --> April 2004

SUCCESS!

Aug 2001: B 10 P 8 V 7

April 2002: B 9 P 11 V 5

April 2004: B 12 P 12 V 9 👍

It can be done if you want it!

I took the test twice in the mid-90s. I didn't get accepted into med school, went into the military, and so when I decided to reapply I had to retake. This April I scored 4 points higher than my best score previously.

I prepared harder and used TPR to prep.

I took the april MCAT and got a 7PS 9VR 9BS....I got that stupid 7 because i had to randomly bubble in 20 questions because I ran out of time....also, i was nervous like crazy...but this time around....i memorized the physics eqations(i heard thats a 2 pnt increase rite there) and im confident!!! ANyone can do it!!!! MY goal 11 PS 11VR 13BS = 35!!!

My success story
April 2003 VR: 7
April 2004 VR: 12

Damn that's awesome shock! 5 pts in just one section!

Here's another:
Aug02- 6V, 9PS, 10BS
April03- 9V, 9PS, 10BS
Aug03- 9V, 12PS, 12BS

So in conclusion, it is possible to do well on the August exam. Also, it is possible to improve even if you've taken the MCAT too many times to admit. Good luck, and stay confident :luck:
