I'm not seeking a diagnosis, since my ophthalmologist and optometrist already have this figured out, I'd just like some bit more info, since I didn't have enough time w/ him --my Mom dragged me away--.

I have grade 2 retinopathy of prematurity, which degraded the vision in my right eye to requiring a -11D lens --though Dres Lief M. Hertzog, MD, and Darcy C. Ryan, OD, will only give me a -3D balance lens--, which caused anisometropic amblyopia in that eye. Dr Hertzog said that Lasik isn't an option for me, so, could I ask Dr Ryan to refract me for a -8D contact lens, and wear my eyeglasses over them? Would that correct the amblyopia, or is a prism required? Any solutions, b/c I don't want to give up my eyeglasses, b/c I look so much better w/ them than w/o. And is it possible that having that ROP, and not wearing a patch for over 16yrs caused my optic nerve to degrade? How would Dr Hertzog test for optic nerve degradation? An electroneurogram of the optic nerve? Should I ask to be referred to a neuro-ophthalmologist? Any good ones in the Long Beach, CA area?

BTW, what acuity does a refractive error requiring a -11D lens translate into?

Thanks!

While you may not be seeking a diagnosis, you are asking for medical advice. Neither are really something we are able to allow in a public forum such as this. My suggestion is that if you want a second opinion, you seek one out in person, not online.
