Does anyone know when the next adcom meeting is at Rochester? Or how often they have meetings? I heard they had one at the end of January, but apparently I wasn't in that pile of applications. It has been 3 weeks since my interview, and the longest 3 weeks of my life. Yeah, I obviously need more patience.

any january interviewees hear back from UR yet or know when the adcom meets?

I interviewed 1/23/2006 and was told that there was an adcom meeting that week, but we wouldn't be included. Our applications were being rolled over to the February meeting which - I think - happens in the third week of the month. They told us to expect a decision around the beginning of March. Hope that helps...

I interviewed on 1/11 and received a phone call on 2/9

It's past the third week in february! I'm crossing everything possible, hoping that I hear something this week. Good luck to everyone who's in the same boat! :luck:

I'm waiting on Rochester also. Let's make this our good luck thread.

I spoke with an applicant over the weekend who received a phone call from someone in admissions on Friday accepting him/her. I've heard others say in the past that they were also accepted over the phone, but others also received e-mails or simply the letter in the mail. Just a matter of time now...

Any more news from today or yesterday, folks? Any acceptances?

I haven't heard anything, but I jump every time the phone rings. I guess it's good no one else has heard anything either...hope springs eternal 🙂

Bumping this thread now that the server is fixed. Just hoping to hear some news from others about Rochester acceptances, waitlists, etc.

ashabee, i think it's just me and you...the waiting is killing me!

Interviewed on 1/30 and received a letter in the mail on 2/21 that I was waitlisted. Going to withdraw. Good luck to those that are waiting!

Thanks for the info. I'm surprised by this though. I interviewed there on January 20th and haven't heard a word. I believe that the adcom only met at the end of January and then just recently (3rd week of February). Apparently it is not as simple as reviewing candidates monthly and then sending out letters all at once. Whatever selection process they use is more confusing than I thought.

mellowyellow, the waiting is also killing me!

Well, if i don't hear today or tomorrow, I've got to book another flight out to the east coast for my last interview. I've been putting it off in case I really don't need to shell out another 500 bucks...pretty, pretty please Rochester!

That sucks, mellowyellow. The worst part is that you KNOW they've made their decision already. Why can't we know?!? TELL US.

hi guys.

yeah, i interviewed at rochester on the 1/30 also, and i still haven't heard anything either.

i mean... they did say 6-8 weeks, right?

I was told 6-8 weeks. No harm in hoping it would come sooner.

Yesterday was six weeks exactly for me...i interviewed 1/27. My mom said she had a funny feeling when she woke up that i was going to hear something. yeah, guess not. i hate that i get my hopes up for the stupidest reasons, even if i try not to. and parents who think you're the best kid in the world are nice most of the time, but not when it manifests as absolute confidence that "you WILL get in." What if i don't? Arrrrggggggg! We should just do a match day, like in Texas, and at least the majority of us would know our fate.
Sorry, i just needed to rant to people who understand...thanks for being there, guys. 😉

Oof, I actually didn't realize that it has already been 6 weeks for me. I must have just missed their last adcom meeting. I know how you feel. I call home every afternoon to see if something has arrived, although I know my parents would call me if anything did.

Mellowyellow - since you interviewed on a Friday, I'm assuming you also had an interview with a student. The other interview days don't have this extra interview. Any idea how they take these into account? I didn't feel like my student interview went as well as the others...and I feel the need to analyze absolutely everything until a letter from U of R comes in the mail.

Ack! I know what you mean! I'm remembering every little word that I said and thinking of all the ways it could be taken. And I can't stop! Weird how right after the interview I remembered all the good stuff, and now I can't for the life of me think of any of it.
As far as my interviews, I think I was atypical. I had an interview with an MDPhD student, so that was awkward to begin with. I have no intention of doing any more research than I have to. I hope they don't weigh his opinion as much as the others cause he seemed bored. I had an interview with a doctor, but my second "faculty" interview was with a student who was doing her "year out." She had a fellowship or grant or whatever to work at UofR, but technically she was still a student. So I really don't know what to make of that.
Do they send a letter, or do they call?

U of R took four weeks to make a decision on my application last year and they called my cell phone. I was also a late applicant. Good luck!!

I think students hold the same weight vote-wise as faculty interviewers....

Ok, I'm bumping this cause I NEED to know...
hasn't anyone heard from Rochester???

interviewed end of january... still waiting.

Still waiting. Starting to think my application to Rochester was all a dream. Has anyone called the admissions office to see if letters have been sent out or anything?

Actually, if you interviewed on 1/27 it hasn't been six weeks yet so you can relax for the next few days.

You're right! I don't know how I was counting... 😳
But, since the committee met TWO friggin' weeks ago, I'm still on pins and needles. Ug.

Ash, I'm afraid to call...

I know. I'm waiting also. But it does not seem like the people that interviewed with our pool has found out yet so try not to drive yourself crazy like I am.

I finally received word! I was waitlisted. At this point, I'll take that. I was just praying it wasn't a rejection. Anyone else receive word?

I loved Rochester. I hope Rochester doesn't waitlist me! Heck man, I won't be too dissatisfied if I get a (another) waitlist. I heard Rochester is one of those schools that doesn't overaccept and dips into their waitlist.

I heard from Rochester today, I'm on the waiting list. (Interviewed 1/30). I've been waiting and waiting for this since the 3rd week of Feb, so I gotta admit I'm kinda disappointed. hm, well.... at least it wasnt a rejection....

Waitlisted today as well. Does anyone remember/have the "financial aid form" that we're supposed to fill out? I don't think I still have one...

waitlisted too. the finaid form was included in the folder they gave us at the interview, i believe.

good luck with list movement everyone. keeping my fingers crossed...

hey how did you guys find out about your status? If it was snail mail, are you all out east? Arg!
Just in case you wonder, I don't actually make that sound out loud...I just think it. If you were wondering... 😛

snail mail but i'm about as far from rochester as you can get here on the west coast. the letter was dated march 2 so it took over a week to reach me.

Hmmm...I don't know whether that's good or bad..I'm on the west coast, too and I haven't heard anything. I envy you all your knowledge!! That sounds old school...

did other waitlist letters contain the statement "at present it does not appear that we will go to our Waiting List for any offers of admission until after March?"

I received my letter via snail mail. My letter also said the same thing about not touching waitlisted students until after March. What is everyone's interpretation of this? My first impression was that quite a few students were accepted from the waitlist...not so sure anymore.

I didn't really think there was anything worrisome about it... it's already mid-March... people aren't going to be declining their acceptances from this round even for another two weeks. I also have had the impression that Rochester's waitlist moves a good bit, I'm still hoping it does 🙂

Room for one more in purgatory? I got my letter yesterday. 🙁

Hi everyone, I got waitlisted way back in Oct/Nov. And Rochester is my first choice too! Does anyone get accepted?! It seems like soo many people have been waitlisted. I've been waiting and waiting - hopefully movement will start before May 15 - I can't stand the suspense!

Ok...I got it too. My letter was dated March 8, and it says they probably won't go to the waitlist until after March too. It asks to know whether I want to stay on the waitlist. Do you think it would be appropriate to include an update in the letter, or should that be separate?

At least it isn't a rejection...

If you haven't sent it out yet, I would include an update letter if I were you. I feel like they will be more likely to read the letter in its entirety since they are expecting you to write to tell them whether you want to stay on the waitlis or not.

Being on the waitlist feels worse than not knowing. I'm just going to act as if there isn't a chance I'll be accepted at all so I can start making other plans.

Has anyone called the admissions office to see if it's possible to know your general location on the waiting list?

Also, I'm wondering if anyone was rejected post-interview. Many people were rejected pre-interview but none that I've heard of so far post. hmm...

i believe the waitlist is unranked. i may be wrong though - does anyone know?

i heard recently that the current class is holding, but people may start dropping in the next month or so. keeping my fingers crossed...

I interviewed on 2/27...does anyone have any idea how the chances of outright acceptance look this late in the game? I really did like Rochester. =/

So I don't know if the waitlist is unranked, but my letter (sent in November) said that I had 'a very high spot on the waitlist with a probable offer of admission before May 2006.' Did most people's letter say that?

Mine didn't. Lucky you! Let us know when/if they take you off the list!
