Just curious what y'all think of the following statment, made by one my attendings after a lap chole (and a sentiment obviously shared by many at my program based on behavior)

"PA, intern, chief....you're all the same to me. It doesn't matter who scrubs with me. I can do this operation with anyone"

That statement is meant for you to get your butt working.

Cuz if you don't get to the OR on time, he will do it with the PA.

Lets face it, he has to operate no matter what help he gets.

The statement is not meant to put anybody down (PAs, residents, or the chief resident).

does this mean the attending is acutally DOING the lap choley himself? cause if so, that sucks for the residents to be just assisting on it.

If he means he can TEACH anyone how to do it, well, in that case, I'd take it as an inviation to get in the OR first and snag every one of the cases he lets me.
