I was a little confused about the process of rotation. Is it possible to rotate through one hospital for your whole 3rd year. This would make it possible to not have to constantly move around from apartment to apartment or even city to city! In particular I was wondering about CCOM and UHS-COM but any info would be great. Thanks

Danny,

The situation at UHS is different than most in that the maj of students go to
other locations for the 3rd and 4th years. About a third of our class will
be staying in KC. The teaching hospitals here include Parklane, St. Joseph's,
and Children's Mercy, but the Administration is trying to add several others
as well (all in the KC area). The reason is that the current system has room
for only 50-60 students and a recent survey indicated that 78 of us want to stay
in the area. We have been told that if everything goes as planned we will all
be able to stay. The majority of the class (there are 209 of us) intends to go
elsewhere. The other locations include New York, Texas, Michigan, Florida,
St. Louis and I THINK California. They are also trying to establish rotation
sites in Colorado and Chicago. Unfortunately I don't have any more info on the
other locations (since I plan to stay here I didn't really investigate them).
Also, as far as I know, regardless of where you go, that is where you would
stay (all the hospitals would be in the same metro area). Assignments won't be
finalized until Feb or March, so I'll know more in a couple of months and if
you're interested I'll keep you posted. Finally, you DON'T want to be limited
to just one hospital during your 3rd year...you want to get as much variety and
exposure as possible. Hope this info helps.
