At least $4,000 for me so far and I've gotta fly up to NYC for an interview at NYMC this Thursday. That is going to add about $500 to that total.

May I ask how many schools you applied to?
I took the shotgun approach and went with 41. I was not going to re-apply next year :D . In retrospect, this may have been a few too many, as I ended up withdrawing from 11 schools after I received my first acceptance. Also, I applied to about 10-12 "reach" schools because I wanted to elimintate that "What if I applied to some of the "top 10" schools and somehow managed to get in?" from my conscience (the answer to which has been pretty clear so far  ).

However, if I was to do it all over again, I would still apply to about 35 schools or so.

I'm afraid to add up the numbers, but it's gotta be 5-7K. I travelled out of state 4 times, did Princeton Review, bought interview clothes, etc.

I'm thinking the med schools, airlines, AMCAS, and all them are in cahoots. Someone who's good at math could figure out if each applicant drops an average of $5K, that's some serious cabbage going into the economy!

Around $5,000 this application year and about $4,000 last year, nota having many interviews helped the pocketbook a bit. I contributed my fair share to the economy, wouldn't you say!!!

MCAT materials: $500 for books/tutoring
MCAT: $360 (2 sittings)
AMCAS: $750

Having cleared the acronynm stage:
Secondaries: $2000
Flights for interviews: $1100
Hotels for interviews: $0 (thank you to all my wonderful hosts)
Cabs/shuttles: $50

Total: $4760 (not counting food, gas, missed work)

Thank you Mom for the $250 suit (yea Anne Klein outlets)

Since I work full time as an engineer, if we add in missed work for studying, missed work to fill out MSTP apps, about 2-4 days missed work per interview......I don't even want to calculate the thousands it would add.

Luckily insurance took care of that deer that decided to hop in front of me going up a mountain coming home from Wake. Would have doubled my costs, otherwise.

I tried to take a cheap approach... this will be good to figure it out...

Okay, so I got 10MDs and 1DO. 150+35*10 I think for MD? $500. Two DOs, Dont remember but around $200, to total $700 for primary apps.

Completed 9 secondaries, average of $75 per secondary is $675.

Only school where I actually had to pay for a room was at OSU, $50. Gas, hmm, lets just say $100.

Downpayments to reserve a spot, $500 for MSU COM and $50 for WSU = $550.

Total is $2075.

OHHH I FORGOT THE MCAT.... So I took that twice, both time on sunday, so thats $200 a pop. Plus the second time I actually studied for it, so there is about $250 in study materials, so that is $650 right there to bump the total to $2725

Damn, no wonder I'm broke :/
