This doesn’t appear to be critical care. This looks like FM physicians working in rural EDs trying to learn Emergency Medicine. You want to do EM, you train as an EP. You want to do critical care. You do an actual critical care fellowship. Working in a rural environment is difficult, even more difficult when you haven’t been well trained.

Agreed. I also don’t fault someone for wanting to get some dedicated training to fill holes they have from residency if they find themselves in situations for which they are ill prepared. Many of the places surrounding Billings are a one doc town sort of situation.

Yes, but it ignores the reality that not every place has the money or volume for an ABIM/AOBIM board cert Intensivist. There’s a reason that SCCM has the Fundamentals of Critical Care Support series.
