safety schools

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
there are no safety schools for your situation.

i got a 30 on my MCAT bro theres gotta be a safety school. and what med school r u headed off too Tex?

truly there are very few situations where a person has safety schools. this is generally for people with 3.8+/33+ applicants.

you did pretty well on the mcat, but its not going to make your med school application process a guaranteed success.

im not applying in this cycle. i didnt mean to sound negative, but i just wanted to tell you that its pretty hard to get into med school with a 3.2. not to say its impossible, but its pretty difficult.

I know quite a few people who got into DO programs with these #s. SGU could be a relatively safe school if you care for foreign schools.
To be perfectly honest, you would be in the lower middle tier of applicants to allo schools simply based on your gpa/mcat. If your LORs and ECs are strong, then your chances obviously improve

I agree that their are no such things as "safety schools" but their are schools which you have a higher chance of getting into. I'd recomend Finch Medical school (chicago), so would George Washinton medical School. And probablly your state school.

I too agree with the statement that "safety" schools do not exist. I applied to several schools at which my stats were well above average and did not even receive interviews. Applying to a broad range of schools is your best bet.

Sorry, but Tex is right... with a 3.2/30, your safety schools would be Caribbean and Osteopathic. The only exceptions in my mind are if a) you're from the Ivy league or an Ivy-like school (e.g. Duke, Stanford) or b) one of your parents is a faculty member at a medical school.

This doesn't mean that you won't get in, but it's not fair to assume that you're a slam-dunk for any particular school.

Good luck,
doepug

go osteopathic, my friend. you'd be crazy to not apply to at least one or two.

I had a 31 on my mcat and a 3.4 GPA from a top 25 school. I'm currently on waitlists (i.e. there is no such thing as a safety school).
