I applied really early! end of July!

Undergrad GPA 3.1
Graduate (masters degree) GPA 3.5

OAT: 320 overall

Just have to do the best you can.... get at least 300 in every section of OAT and apply early. Have people skills for interview and your set!

Good luck. I hope it helps!

oat - 330
volunteer/work - 2+ years as a tech
GPA: 2.5? - yea i blew it

i received my letter about three days after my acceptance. i explained my reasons for such a low GPA and how i ended on a rising trend.
interview was laid back: closed file, one on one, standard interview questions. definitely know whats going on in the field (negatives, positives, trends, population, etc) i think this solidified my knowledge about optometry.

good luck

GPA: 3.67
OAT: 320
Extracurriculars: Alpha Phi Omega, Band, American Chemical Society of Students, Best Buddies, Society of Honors Scholars, a couple volunteer programs, tutoring, visiting the elderly
Shadowing: I shadowed two general practice optometrists, a low vision specialist, a pediatric and vision therapy specialist, and an ophthalmologist.

I submitted 9/13 but it took forever for optomcas to verify mine. I interviewed 12/20 and was accepted 12/23.

OAT: 330 (w/ 400 RC, but 290 Physics)
GPA: 3.2
Volunteer/Job Shadowing: 30+ hours
Worked in an Opto office: 7 months (at the point of my interview)
Lots of various extracurriculars (they did not seem to really care what, so long as it shows you are well-rounded)

I applied early as well, at the beginning of August. OptomCAS took forever to send out my application, but PCO invited me for an interview right away.

The interview was more conversational than I had expected; it was really laid-back, one-on-one, and closed file. I walked in anticipating a VERY formal environment, but right away the staff members were making jokes and doing everything they could to make you RELAX. They informed us that it would take 2 weeks to receive a response, but I received my acceptance only 3 days later.

Good luck!

I printed them off the second day of optomcas and turned them into my advisors, teachers, docs i worked with... told them i needed them in two weeks max! Give them a deadline...or else they will take their time. It worked for me!

Can you explain what you mean by closed file?

Closed file just means that the interviewer does not have your information, application, LORs, etc. in front of them during your interview (nor have they read it beforehand), thereby removing any bias or perceptions the interviewer may have about you. Personally, I found the open file interview to be stressful questions, whereas the closed file interview was just a casual conversation.

Hi,

I'm looking for an Eye clinic in my area in MA where I can shadow-volunteer while preparing to take the boards. I have an OD, from Nigeria and BS/MS in Clinical research from the University of massachusetts. Please does anyone know how I can get around this? [email protected]
