Unfortunately Sam's club is closer to UNC than any nearby Costco's are, although both are pretty far away. You'd need to venture into Durham and near Duke campus to get to Costco . Sam's Clubs in the area aren't as "ghetto" as the Wal-marts around here, so you should be fine with only a Sam's membership.

My parents have shopped at Sam's my whole life, and I can confidently report that we have not been held at knifepoint thus far.
