The annual Saturday Morning Cartoon Convention was well underway, hosted once again by Warner Bros. Studio in a gesture of goodwill towards all their rival producers of children's entertainment television. Cartoons from all networks and various decades gathered to catch up with old friends and discuss the important topics affecting their livelihoods. This year, the subject on everyone's mind was the depictions of violence in their respective shows.

There had been talk for years about whether characters springing back from what should be fatal injuries would give children unrealistic expectations about their own physical limitations. Some felt these violent acts should be removed entirely from the programs, while others felt the solution was to introduce more realistic depictions. The former attitude seemed to be winning the majority, but still there were a few disgruntled holdouts who felt their characters would be watered down if not allowed to drop an anvil on someone every now and again.

The cartoons milled about, a tense undercurrent palpable even in the most casual conversations, as two figures took the stage. Dubz and KD stood together on the podium, smiling out at the crowd of friends and colleagues.

"Good afternoon everyone, and we want to thank you all for taking the time to attend the convention," said Dubz. "As most of you are probably aware, KD and I are spearheading the movement to minimize depictions of violence in children's television programming and founded the It Takes A Village campaign to that end. We hope to engage in civil discourse with all of you throughout the course of this conference and address any concerns you may have with our vision of the future of cartoons. I will now turn the podium over to KD, who will present the data we have been gathering over the last several years on the psychological impact of cartoon violence." Dubz nodded to her partner and moved to a seat near the edge of the stage.

"Thank you Dubz, and yes thank you to everyone for attending. Today I hope to show --" but at that moment all the lights in the building cut off. Panicked screams bounced around the room, and the sounds of a struggle and choked gasps echoed from the direction of the stage.

"Jinkies!" Velma shouted when the lights flickered back on, revealing the fallen bodies of the hosts. Batman suddenly appeared over the bodies, leaning close to investigate. As he stared at what appeared to be bite marks across KD's face, she grabbed his arm, pulling him close to her, and whispering something in his ear. His expression was unreadable beneath the cowl as she released his arm and took her final breath.

Dead are @WildZoo, who was Papa Smurf, and @kaydubs, who was Wilma Flintstone.

"We must find the villains responsible for this," Batman said to the frightened crowd, eyeing each one of the attendees with fierce suspicion.

"Yes," someone shouted, "But I think first we should elect someone to lead the investigation! Otherwise, it will just be an inefficient mess!"

"Well as the world's greatest detective, I assumed..." Batman started, but he was cut off by another voice.

"Yeah I agree," said Daffy Duck, "You can't just show up and take control, we should have a fair vote!"

Batman sighed as murmurs of agreement rippled through the crowd. A waste of a day, he thought, but nothing to stop him from investigating on his own. They could have their vote.

WW Basics (Adapted from WW 101)

The game is divided into cycles. Each cycle is divided into a day and a night. During the day is when the players decide who they should "yeet" for that day. Villagers are trying to figure out who the wolves are (hence the name of the game WW=werewolf... by day they act like villagers, but by night they kill), and any other non-village entities that might pose a threat. The non-villagers are trying to look like they are doing the same, while actually acting towards their own win conditions. Each of you will cast a vote during the day sessions to yeet someone. When you cast a vote please put your vote in BOLD and use the term "vote" or "yeet", for example, yeet kaydubs. If you cannot use bold, put your vote in octothorpes, like so: ######yeet kaydubs######. You can change your vote from one person to another at any time before the vote is closed by writing unyeet kaydubs, yeet dubz. Whoever has the most votes against them will then be yoten. They will die (usually) and are removed from the game.

We then move to the night cycle. This is when the wolves pick who they are going to kill. Also, many villagers have roles that allow them to do things to help the villagers out. Please reply to your role conversation with your night actions if you have any. To make it easier for us to find your final action, please bold it and indicate the night like this:
N1
Mutilate dubz

There will be a writeup after each day session explaining what happened in the yeet and the role of the persons yoten, and also a writeup after the night session similarly. Sometimes these writeups can give you hints, and sometimes they are just for fun, and sometimes they are designed to mislead you. That's part of the fun!

Rules for this game, READ CAREFULLY

Note that these rules must be followed. We will not hesitate to enact punishment for breaking them, up to and including "mod killing", where you are removed from the game.

1. Do not discuss the game outside of this thread and your role (or mentor) PM unless you are specifically allowed to do so by the mods. There are no PMs in this game outside of ones set up by us. You should also avoid discussing game strategy with people in real life.

2. Once you are dead, you are not allowed to strategize on the thread. If you are going to post, you must post in asterisks
********
like this
********
Please limit the amount that you post, and limit content to fun comments or cheering for your team. Just as you should be careful with what you post after death, you should also be careful with what posts you like/react to. Use your best judgement, don't like posts with strategy in them. You would be surprised how what you say or like can sway players' thoughts, even if you think it is innocuous. So err on the side of caution. DO NOT DISCUSS THE GAME WITH LIVING PLAYERS.

3. Participate, participate, participate. I am not a mod who tolerates ghosting. We spent time building this game, and by signing up you committed to play it. Submit a vote and a night action (if you have one) every day. If you plan to not use your night action, please let us know so that we can close early when appropriate. Life does happen, so if things get busy let us know and send in contingency votes/actions. To get notifications of posts in this thread, please click the "watch thread" button at the top. This will help you remember that the game is going on! If you get too busy to follow the game, please let us know and we will try to find someone to sub in for you.

4. This is a chance to practice your paraphrasing skills. Direct quoting or copy/pasting of ANY PMs is not allowed. Screenshots are not allowed. Fake copy/pasting, quoting, and screenshots are not allowed either.

5. You may edit posts in this game, but only for small things (clarifying wording/typos). Do not edit votes. Think before you post. Do not delete posts under any circumstances, unless instructed to do so by a mod.

6. Do not discuss or share your night results before the writeup is posted. However, you are free to continue to strategize between yeet close and writeup.

7. This is not technically a rule...but I would enjoy it if you changed your avatar to something cartoon themed!

8. GIFS ARE WELCOME BUT SHOULD BE HIDDEN IN SPOILER TAGS. Please respect those who may be playing with limited time, on phones, or with bad connections. If you do not know how to use spoiler tags, ask your mentor or the mods.

Rules for Mentors: Mentors are here to advise you of the mechanics of playing, and to discuss general strategy, but remember you are the ones who are playing. You will learn best from the mistakes you make over the course of this game. Do not ask your mentor to tell you exactly what to do. You will notice all mentor messages on the thread will be surrounded by emojis

:angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic:
like this
:vamp::vamp::vamp::vamp::vamp::vamp::vamp::vamp::vamp::vamp:

That is so you can pick out the mentor messages easily!

If you have questions, please ask either the mods or the mentors, or you can post a question on the thread and one of us will answer.

Final rule: HAVE FUN!
And try to survive ;)

Nicknames

Please see this thread lovingly curated by @Lawpy for a guide to commonly used nicknames. If you are still confused about who someone is, just ask.

WW Terminology - NOW IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER!
*may be updated with suggestions - manators please offer suggestions in our chat if you have them, so we don't clog up the thread.*

Bandwagon
- A buildup of votes on one player, usually one that quickly reaches the majority of votes

Bus/Bussing - when a wolf backstabs another to gain the trust of the village

Idiot Savant - Also known as "Who are you, STL?" The act of correctly voting a wolf, but for all the wrong reasons. Logic need not apply.

ISO - Short for "isolate", refers to when you search for a particular player's posts in the thread to read all of them at once. Often used to evaluate a single player at a time based on tone, or check for consistency in their posts.

Majority - How some lynches in WW games operate - the vote closes as soon as someone has more than 50% of the total number of possible votes

Meta - Wolf meta. Village meta. Meta meta meta. This simply refers to various aspects of a player's playstyle, through time, in multiple games, and in different roles. You may not see it used as much in this game since many of you are new and do not yet have an established meta.

Mod Flair - refers to artistic/creative license taken by the mods in writeups and individual players results. It is common for players to attempt to determine whether a particular portion of these writings is relevant to the game or simply mods having fun.

NAI - Not Affiliation Indicative. Usually refers to some aspect of a player's play that does not point to whether they are wolf or village. It simply...is.

NK - night kill - a death that occurs at night in the game. Usually refers to the wolf factional kill but can refer to other deaths as well!

Parity - When wolf numbers equal village numbers. This is how wolves win the game.

Plurality - How most votes in SDN WW games operate - the person who has the most votes when the cycle closes "wins" (and their prize is death)

Pocket - something mysteriously missing from a lot of women's clothing. Also the act of getting another player to trust you, typically by some form of sneaky emotional manipulation

POE - "Pot of Evil" "Pool of Eels" or, if you're boring, Process of Elimination. The suspects that remain when you eliminate your village reads, cleared villagers, etc from the roster.

PR - "Power role" - most often refers to a village role that has an ability (so not vanilla). May also be used to refer to a wolf with an ability.

RNG - Random Number Generator. Refers to the randomization of any part of the game, whether that be role distribution, a random d1 vote, breaking of a tie to determine who gets lynched, or an ability being used on a random player.

Rojo - One of the great old ones, his name has now the common term used to describe the act of accidentally posting something on the thread that was meant for PM, usually when a wolf posts something that was meant for wolf chat.

Scum - a catchall for the informed minority, usually the murderous ones. Someone the village needs to eliminate.

Sheep (verb) - refers to when players echo or follow another player's ideas/reasoning or yeet vote. Usually has a negative connotation.

Sketchy - If you look up sketchy in the dictionary you will see pictures of many of our illustrious manators, along with this modator (depending on who you ask). Synonymous include wolfy, shady, suspect, suspicious, and highly yeetable.

Soft clear - When a player determines that, in their opinion, another player is not a wolf based on interactions, analysis, or whatever else and NOT through trustworthy mod-given information

Tinfoil - crackpot guesses and theories - something that may be posited by a player on thread just in case they are correct, but is often a little nutty.

Tot - Spectator --> Spectatortot --> Tatertot --> tot. These are the people observing the game from the outside, commenting in their own group chat with the mods.

Tunneling - player A continues to go after player B day after day, perhaps in spite of evidence that player B is village

Vanilla - a player with no special abilities. Can refer to a villager - sometimes called a vanillager - or a wolf, who in that case would have no abilities other than killing. Can also refer to a type of game where no special abilities exist.

VCA - Vote Count Analysis - a way of analyzing the game based on previous votes. The goal is to figure out who the wolves (and the villagers!) are based on the progression of previous days' votes.

Village(r) Code - A terrible way to determine someone's affiliation based on the style/format of their role PM, due to the assumption that wolf PMs will be formatted different from villager PMs. Don't do it.

VoLo - Vote (correctly) or Lose. Also seen as "Yolo" (Yeet correctly or Lose). This is the point of no return for the village. If anything other than a wolf is voted out during VoLo, village loses the game. Other related terms include MoLo, which is the game state where a misyeet would lose the game for village but no death or the death of a third party would not, and Marvolo, which refers to Volo and Molo together when there is some doubt about which stage the game is in.

Waffle - A delicious breakfast food. Also, the act of switching your vote. If lots of votes are switching around the same time, especially towards the end of the day, we call that a wafflefest

Wagon
- simply refers to the collection of votes for a particular player, no matter how many votes there are or how quickly they were placed

WIFOM - Wine in Front of Me, taken from the poison scene in The Princess Bride. The circular reasoning that results from trying to determine the choices of someone who knows their actions would be analyzed. Probably overused.

It is now Day 1. Please elect your mayor.

Rather than voting to kill someone today, you will be voting for a player to lead the investigation into the murderous individuals in your midst.

The mayor election will close at 9pm EST TOMORROW.

We would like to close night 1 soon after, so please start sending in your night actions. After this first cycle, yeet closes will generally be 9pm EST and night closes will be as soon as all night actions are received, or 9am EST.

YOU SHOULD ALL HAVE RECEIVED YOUR ROLE PMS. PLEASE NOTIFY US ASAP IF YOU WERE MISSED.

Manatees, where possible, please keep conversations/discussions with your manators to your manator/manatee PM, rather than your role PM. Wolves, please keep such discussions in your wolf social PM. Please use your role PM for questions to the mods and action submissions. This will allow us to find them more easily. You are also free to entertain the mods in your social PMs as you see fit - just remember to bold the important stuff. We will probably chat with you quite a bit ;)

THE THREAD IS NOW OPEN. TIME TO VOTE!

Ok hey everyone. I'm Lawpy the padawan (also known as Lawper, lawyers, Larper, rock lawpster, pawpy and many other variations)

I'm here to help you guys learn how to play WW and have fun along the way while also playing (and probably failing along the way :bag::sorry:)

Some basic things

Read everything listed in initial mod posts thoroughly (maybe even several times). They are REALLY IMPORTANT.

Your manators are there to guide you if you're lost or have any questions but are too afraid to post on thread.

The basics of WW game is relatively simple. There are good guys (villagers) and bad guys (wolves). Villagers' goals are to yeet every single wolf and protect their village. Wolves' goals are to yeet as many villagers as possible until they reach parity. Parity means the game ends with the same number of wolves and villagers (implying the wolvee kill the villagers in the postgame credit scenes)

There are often morally gray characters known as 3rd parties who are in the game. These can be anything and have their own win conditions. As villagers, our goal should be to yeet the wolves and protect the village as 3rd parties don't usually affect our win conditions. Sometimes 3rd parties can help villagers to yeet wolves. Sometimes 3rd parties are wolf friendly. But mainly, 3rd parties are looking out for themselves only.

Some players may have certain roles that can be used at night by submitting actions in their role PM. TRY TO AVOID REVEALING YOUR ROLE OM THREAD UNLESS IT'S ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. ALWAYS ASK YOUR MANATOR WHEN IT IS APPROPRIATE TO ROLE REVEAL

Mod writeups can have important clues into it so be sure to read them.

Also i like to view WW games as a movie with complex 3 dimensional characters who have their own strengths and weaknesses. I admit i watch a lot of movies. Sometimes villagers get into fights with villagers and accidentally end up yeeting them. It's ok. Mistakes happen. Some wolves may be sympathetic villains who suavely get villagers to village read them and yeet other villagers. This is called pocketing and it can happen in WW games. Be careful!

Try to use whatever you can to build your case against someone you think is a wolf when yeeting them. Early D1 tends to be filled with random votes and that's usually accepted. But sometimes, striking things happen and a wolf can be yeeted successfully in D1 itself.

These are some basic tips and overview and i'll post more along the way.

Have fun!

Well. Here we go!

Let’s all try to start talking as early as possible and keep active! As the uninformed majority, the only way we can suss out the wolves is to get info flowing. The more chatter, the more we learn about each other(/the more chances for wolves to rojo themselves).

I wonder which I'm going to spend more time on, re-reading instructions or picking out a cartoon character avatar.

Should we pick a cartoon character that is who we are or just some random one?
Also wondering about this. I thought avatars were usually related to roles, but that’s because I didn’t know we aren’t supposed to discuss roles. If we aren’t supposed to have an avatar hinting our role/cartoon of origin, I’ll go with a favourite comic panel (ok, not technically cartoon but shhh you can’t tell from a still image) I use on another forum.

I guess if it’s not super obvious that we have a role from our character it probably isn’t a problem.

Ah, so the rule just bans talking about the mechanics of our role, not the character we are?

I've played several games now, and I'll still be confused for the foreseeable future. The first few days are the hardest because there is so little to go off of. The best thing to do is be active. The more active everyone is, the easier it is.

Also, how do we figure out who is a wolf? Besides PM'ing??

You have to try to figure it out by posts and behavior. We can’t PM outside of PMs set up by the mods unless you’re a wolf and just rojoed yourself lol
lol no

Ask questions. Track behavior. Track votes. It becomes easier the more information we gather.

lol. Pretty sure it's just a normal noob question. I wouldn't read much into it for now.

Come what come may, time and the hour runs through the roughest day.

Vote Matthew9Thrityfive for mayor

but remember

I think the mayor is but a man, as I am. The violet smells to him as it doth to me. The element shows to him as it doth to me. All his senses have but human conditions. His ceremonies laid by, in his nakedness he appears but a man.
