The two scholarships I know about for medical school are the military <a href="http://nshs.med.navy.mil/hpsp/" target="_blank">Health Profesions Scholarship Program</a> (HPSP) and the <a href="http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nhsc/Pages/about_nhsc/3B1_nhscschol.htm" target="_blank">National Health Service Corps Scholarship</a>.
<a href="http://lukeballard.tripod.com/HPSP.html" target="_blank">Here</a> is a good site that discusses the HPSP.

Thanks, mpp. You are a veritable fount of information!! :D

Why do you think you need a scholarship? If you get in, you will make enough money to pay off your loans. You just don't see MDs on the street.

Some people don't go into high income specialties.
Some people don't like to be in debt. Some people might like to have the option to take time off or work part time for a while to start a family without a crushing mountain of debt.

uh, the idea of having over $100K (and possibly approaching $200K, depending on where i wind up) in loans by the time i graduate isn't exactly very appealing to me. any amount it can be lessened is fine by me.

sure, it will be paid off eventually, but how long will it take, and how much will i have to scrimp in the meantime? you're expected to start paying back loans when you're a resident, when you're hardly making big bucks. the loans can be refinanced, but that doesn't necessarily help; i know residents who are on a 30-yr plan for repaying their med school loans. sure, it lessens each monthly payment, but they'll be nearing retirement age by the time they even finish paying for med school.

Hey williever
- I've been contacting the schools that I will be applying to and getting information about scholarships that they offer. For instance, Vandi has a some info on their website, as does UMich, etc. However some schools have squat when it comes to info on scholarships - it takes some time, but it beats what I have found by doing searches on the web. Hope this helps ;)

I mean I'm totally about subsidizing whatever I have to pay back in teh future. When I come out of med school I want to be thinking about other things to do with my money (purchase and S class, buy a phat house, own a lambo, etc etc) not pay back loans.

but hey thanks for the replies i think they were sooooooooooooooo helpful! I tried contacting the school I'll prolly go to (ross u in teh carib) but they really dont have any scholarships, except this one for african americans/hispanics.

oh well

thanks again

peace

Now don't go spreading this around....we want to save all that money for ourselves :D
