How often do people actually get scholarships? Is it reserved for 3.9, 35+ or do they give them out to people who are all around qualified? By this i mean, do your extracurriculars and volunteering actually factor into your scholarship chance, or is that solely based on your academics? Anyone here who got scholarships, can you give us a general idea, if you know, of why you got them, and where you got them to? Thanks!

if i'm not mistaken, the vast majority of schools offer need-based scholarships vs. merit-based.

Not all schools offer need based scholarships, something I didn't realize when I was applying. BU and Albert Einstein come to mind. So check if that will be important before choosing where to apply. Some schools offer merit schoolarships (many don't). They are offered to students the school thinks they are most likely to lose to another school. To get them, you have to really stand out, both academics and life experience are important. Some schools offer more than others, you can usually see how many are given every year by going through the prospectus and website. WashU and Case Western offered the greatest # out of the schools I applied to.
