Okay, so I've seen discussions about holding multiply acceptances until scholarship packages are offered. Maybe I just haven't done much research on this, but how does one go about obtaining med school scholarships? 😕 As an undergrad, all that was done by filling out the FAFSA, which isn't available yet. I know there are other scholarships out there- like the residency-based one at NYU I'm interested in and the military scholarships. I guess I always just assumed that it would be Army or loans for me.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm hitting the financial aid webpages of the schools I've interviewed at as I write this...

It totally depends on the school. Most merit scholarships are awarded by the school with or after your acceptance automatically if you are a really competitive applicant. Need based grants/financial aid will come later after your FASFA and other forms are filed. There are some other special ones, but I'm not so sure about them. If you are accepted at a school, especially if you are sure you want to go there, call their financial aid office now and ask what sort of merit things you can apply for. If not, be sure to file your FASFA as early as you can next year so it's ready to go.
