Hi, quick fishing expedition for advice...

I've already applied to 17 schools...waiting to hear back about secondaries...is it worth going for an even 20 by adding:

UVA, Vanderbilt, Albert Einstein ?

This isn't one of those posts where I already have the answer I want to hear in my head...I'm really not sure if it's worth the extra $90 on AMCAS. I've applied to top schools, but want to have as many options as reasonably possible)

Thanks

sure, why not?

go for it. i added another on on the 24th and i got the secondary via email today [the 28th] so it wont take that long.

you don't happen to work for amcas do you? haha, just kidding...wow, a 4 day turnaround for a secondary...i submitted the 26th, so it might be a while...

thanks for your input!

17 is plenty if you're a solid candidate, but if you feel you can spend the extra $250-300 than go for it. But it don't think it's that necessary unless you're just really worried and want to feel better that your chances are improved somewhat. My mistake was applying to too many actually - out of the 21 I applied to in hindsight I would have cut out around 5.

I would say go for it! it's obvious that you are thinking about and considering it. just make sure that you have a nice group of schools on your list. I think I heard you say that you applied to top schools? why not apply to some middle tier schools just for the coverage?? are UVA, Albert Einstein, and Vandy considered top tier?

They're in the top 50 according to the arbitrary usnews, so I don't know how much that means. They have relatively high mcats, and mean gpas. My "safety schools" are tulane, miami, and georgetown for now...all excellent schools...so it's either top tier or a bar, beach, or national monument tour for me!

Any recommendations as to some "middle tier" schools? I may have set the bar a bit too high...

Thanks 😉

randall I'm not really sure of the exact rankings of the schools, but I do know some schools are considered High, middle, and low tier schools. I guess this is all based upon mcat, and gpa. now as far as naming the schools per tier, I may not be the best person to ask this. just do a search on the forums and you will definitely find your answer! look up med school rankings or just look in reapplicant and mcat forum! sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I know someone else is going to answer this thread and be able to tell you better than I can.
