Hi - this is definitely on the later side, but I just got my MCAT score from the 4/23 exam. I was expecting a 512 and wound up scoring 517. I'm revamping my school list and I'm honestly not sure how balanced the list I've thrown together is.

Stats etc.
  • Florida resident with strong ties to Oregon and Washington State
  • Recent 2021 Spring graduate
  • GPA: 3.795
  • BCPM: 3.71
  • MCAT: 517
  • 800 clinical volunteering hours over 3 years (student medical response team EMR, internship doing medication management with low-SES diabetic patients)
  • 1200 hours of basic science research over 3 years (3 posters, 2 publications in review - probably not making it on my app)
  • TA for two courses (2 semesters microbiology lab, 6 semesters first aid course)
  • Treasurer and operations coordinator for medium/large student organization
  • Orchestra member for 1 year
  • SGA Hall Council rep for 1 year
  • Employment on campus (6 hours/week for 2 years)
  • 60 hours of shadowing in three specialties
  • Online volunteering during COVID with a non-profit which supports schools in Africa, currently leading a committee dedicated to reducing student dropout rates

You should receive several interviews from your list. Add Florida State. What are your connections to Washington and Oregon ?

I’d remove Drexel, UConn (your state schools are better safeties - make sure you apply to all of them). UWash and OHSU are also tough sells without strong connection. Hofstra, Rochester are some better options.

For your reaches I think schools like Pitt, Case Western, Emory may be better fits than Penn or NYU (as your stats are still below their average).

Otherwise overall your list is fine.

Most of my extended family lives in Southern Washington/Northern Oregon (grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins). My parents plan to move there within the next five years. I spent every summer out there as a kid (usually for about two months at a time).

I know it's not the strongest connection, but is it strong enough to have a shot? I'm slightly more hopeful for OHSU - I have my doubts that I'll have a chance at UWash.

U Washington accepts less than 1% of applicants who are not residents from states in the Northwest. Those few appear to include MD/PhD applicants.
