I know there's old threads on this, but I thought I'd make an updated one! Is anyone applying to EdS or PhD School Psychology programs for Fall 2014?

Right now I'm planning to apply to 7 specialist degree programs and 2 PhDs (wish I could narrow this list down some though). I was a psychology and education studies major at Brandeis with a 3.7 GPA, and I got a 157 on both sections of the GRE. I've also been teaching preschool for the past 2 years, but I don't have any psychology research experience (which makes me feel like I don't really have a chance with PhDs). Deciding my list of schools has been hard because funding is SUPER important for me and not many EdS programs seem to offer much.

Any recommendations on good schools that offer funding for the specialist programs? I know University of Delaware does, so I'm applying there!

Hi,

Your numbers and background are not bad. I assume you also took some research methodology and statistics courses while in undergrad. School psych is a bit less competitive than clinical psych phd programs frequently are. Without research background and experience, it may be more difficult to get into top tier phd programs in school psych such as a the U of Wisconsin, Maryland, etc. - but you may be competitive for solid phd programs still. I would just encourage you to explore some phd programs applicant numbers (e.g., average number of students accepted, average GRE/GPA, etc.) to give yourself a better picture of the numbers. These are posted on phd program websites.

Good luck!

I am also applying to 5 schools! Where else did you apply! I hate waiting and am stressing out! :)

I'm still not done with any apps yet, but I'm applying to UF, UCF, Tufts, Northeastern, UMass Boston, Columbia, Lehigh, Delaware, and William and Mary. What about you?! Congrats on finishing your apps, I know waiting is going to suck!

I applied to school psych Ph.D. programs at University of Wisconsin-Madison, Loyola, Penn State, Illinois State, Michigan State, and Northern Colorado. I'm really hoping to get in to Wisconsin, but I know it's really competitive!
