It seems that a lot of schools just send secondaries to everyone who sends a primary as a regular part of their fundraising. Does anyone know which schools actually screen applicants, particularly in the top 30 or so?

Vanderbilt and the UCs.

Its terrible that many schools send secondaries to people they have no intention of interviewing even with good essays.

It would be a TERRIBLE economic decision to be selective in sending secondaries. Schools cost millions and millions of dollars to operate, I'm sure any sort of fund raising is very beneficial.

U of Washington and OHSU

Wake and UNC.

I second Wake. They are very selective with the secondary. They're even more selective with interviews. That's why 50% of interviewees get in.

The new 2009-2010 MSAR book lists which schools screen applicants before sending out secondary applications.
