Hello everyone, as I am working on the list of schools I am going to apply to. I want to make sure I don't apply to schools that automatically screen out my 23 (9, 5, 9) 😳. I am goin to retake that beast in July and update AACOMAS soon after score release in Aug. btw I'm from CO

I'm not sure if anyone is going to have that info.

I've never seen it anywhere. And I'm not sure if it's a practice that most DO schools would use. While I'm sure it would be hard to get accepted with a low section score, I doubt that schools will "pre-screen" you for it. I'm sure they'll take a look and decide if the rest of your application has something(s) that makes them want to interview you before they send you a rejection.

Yeah best way probably is to email the admissions dpt at schools you're interested in. You'll be surprised how quickly most of them respond with an accurate answer.

And this is a good idea, too! 😀

RVU prescreens all applications. Anyone with a score below a 6 in any section of the MCAT will not receive a supplemental application. However if the exam is repeated and the score meets the minimum requirement, you will be able to move forward in the process.

Well there you have it, I was wrong, at least in the case of RVU.

Most schools won't screen out when they know that you are retaking the MCAT, but if you are afraid of this you can apply to only one school and submit to get verified then when your new MCAT score comes in you can update AACOMAS and add new schools.

Thank you all! I will call each school to find out next week

Yes this is a GREAT thread...

What schools require 7 and above....because I contacted a few schools and they gave weird answers...

one DO school told me you need 8 to be competitive but we will look at the overall application so he didn't go into the pre-screening at all...

another DO school told me directly you need a 7 minimum and any 6's will cause an automatic rejection...

if there is a list that says 6 or 7 or 8 minimum subsection score needed...please let me know as I am stressed right now with MCAT retake studying, finalizing personal statement, and worried about applying for fall 2012....

Good luck to all!!!

Here's a start for MSUCOM from their website directly:

"MSUCOM looks for students who are academically accomplished, committed to service and well versed in the philosophy of osteopathic medicine. In each area of evaluation, we examine applicants' accomplishments within the context of their life experience. Much like the way DOs approach their patients, we invite applicants to tell us their stories by completing a comprehensive supplemental application.

Academic minimum standards for receiving a supplemental application are 2.70 science and overall grade-point average, and total Medical College Admission Test score of 18, with subject-area minimums of 4 in verbal reasoning, 5 in physical sciences, and 6 in biological sciences.

The Admissions Committee meets weekly, beginning in late August. Our weighted ranking, used to determine the order in which applications are reviewed, is 60 percent academic and 40 percent nonacademic. All screening is blind to race/ethnicity, age and gender."
