If you are familiar with the topic, please share your experiences with those schools that have awarded strong financial aid packages (i.e., grants/scholarships) to incoming students.

To start, I have heard secondhand that Duke University is very generous with their financial aid.

Stanford has good financial aid. Depending on your situation, they will give you between $20,000-30,000 in grants, and the rest you can either make up in loans or outside scholarships (you need about $50,000 each year overall for tuition, living expenses, etc.). They also give you opportunities to work on campus as TAs or in the computer lab to make up some of the difference.

Of course Mayo has about the best financial aid. About half of the incoming students get some sort of tuition scholarship (full or half), so even out of state students without a tuition scholarship will still end up paying at the most, maybe $10,000 a year in tuition plus living expenses. And MN is usually inexpensive compared to the east coast or to California.

yes, DEFINITELY Duke! Actually, Penn seems pretty good too, especially if you get a really great offer somewhere else. They go out of their way to try to match it if you really want to go to Penn.

And Wash U supposedly has tons of money to give out, but I think that a good chunk of it goes towards a number of full-tuition scholarships. I don't know if their financial aid is all that great.
