I know medical schools look at your overall GPA as well as your science gpa but does it look worse if your science gpa is lower than overall? Does it help if your overall gpa is a bit higher than science gpa?

The national average GPA breakdown for 2004 matriculants is 3.56 science, 3.70 overall. So that's a very, very normal situation. Here's the data:

Nice to be average, eh?

Not meaning to nitpic, but the 3.7 is nonscience and 3.62 is overall, according to that very helpful site. Thanks for the link!

Yes. Good catch.

Thanks for the replies. I am hoping that my overall gpa will help a little because my science is not so hot.

I'd think they'd mainly want to look at your science GPA. If you got a couple of B's in English classes, I dont think it'll make you look bad. Try not to get the B's in Science classes. One B alone can pull your GPA down a few decimal points. When they pile up the picture is not so nice.

I'm pretty sure it's the science GPA that they look at the most.
