Sorry for the newbie question, but I just want to make absolutely sure, when they calculate your science GPA, does that include every other science course you've taken? Like astronomy, psychology, etc.

Or is it just the required ones, which I assume is the BCPM (bio/chem/phys/math) ?

And when they calculate your overall undergrad GPA, do they just take the GPA at the institution that awarded your bachelors, or every other university you attend?

how can you find out what amcas think your BCPM is? I mean i see some ppl listing their GPA/GPR then adjusted. How does it get adjusted? Thanks.

what about psychology? is that considered under bcpm?

your BCPM is calculated for everything from the start of college and on. including if you went to grad school or whatever. same thing for your overall gpa.

on my application, the gpa was broken down to...

undergrad freshman
undergrad sophomore
undergrad junior
undergrad senior
postbac
graduate school

bcpm and overall basically includes all gpa's from every category. if you went to summer school, just say, after college freshman year, that is considered part of your sophomore year gpa.

What if I made an C in a class, re-took it and made an A, my school counts the A, will AMCAS?

Yep, AMCAS counts all the grades, regardless of the fact that you made up the class and recieved a better grade.

That's not a science course, so no.

how do you see what AMCAS gives you for GPA?? I log in and theres nothing but my application itself.

Does it look really bad if my science GPA is very low compared to overall?
3.63 overall, and 3.46 science. But it's the math and physics that are killing me, Bs and Cs.

I graduated an Information Systems and E-Business (double degree -B.S & B.B.A). I still need to take the chem and bio reqs. But even if I make ALL A's I don't think it will raise my science GPA much.

And it scares me my GPA is right on the average at some schools. There's nothing to differentiate me or make me stand out in terms of grades 🙁

No, this is typical.

Unlessyou live in KALEFONEAH a 3.46 science GPA is decent.

Check out the MSAR.

Take some extra science classes to boost your science GPA if you need the added security.

Or do an SMP.

some psych courses do count, depending on the content. I went through my courses with my advisor and ones such as physiological psych, an fMRI class, and some others are considered science.

It really depends on where you put them on your application. If you put them under psych, it won't count.

click on "print application." if you read through it, after your course listing will be your AMCAS's BCMP, AO, and overall GPAs.

i never thought any psych courses were counted in BCMP. i had a biopsychology course that i would think would count but guess not.

they don't have to count i guess, it just depends where you list them. Since I am a neuroscience major I've had classes that count for the major in both the psych and bio dept, and most of them count for bio credit and therefore are included in the BCPM. They have labs, and are science distribs, and AMCAS, my advisor, and now med schools seem to agree...

Make sure you're consistent though- don't count just the one psych class you got an A in, but not the C's... then they will be suspicious.
