I notice that some schools ask that one of your science recommendations be from your major and another from a science other than your major. Are schools really strict on this requirement?
The reason I ask is that I'm a biology major and my science recs are from a Chemistry professor and an Organic Chemistry professor. So anyone whose had experience with this, do you think it matters?

call the school and find out from them... we can speculate all day long but in the end the school(s) make(s) all desicions.

Yes I could do that and probably will but I'd just like to see if anyone who has already applied and been accepted got around the requirement.

Which schools had that requirement in particular of one rec in your major and one in a science outside your major? I've seen schools that say two science recs, but none which are that specific. Another issue is what's a science recommender. Mine come from biomedical engineering professors (my major). If I they don't qualify as "science", then I have no recommendations 😱 You can get into med school without recommendations, right? 😛

Albert Einstein med school says they need one science from your major and one science out of your major. Jefferson med school says they need one rec from a Biology professor, 1 from a Chemistry, 1 from a physics, and 1 from a humanities.

New York Medical College says one from your major and one from another science. Temple says one from 2 of the following disciplines, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

I nearly crapped my pants when I read that Jefferson med school required all four... so I called immediately to their admission office and talked with an administrative assistant. She said, that if it is difficult for you to obtain a letter from a professor due to whatever reason, that all you have to do is explain it in the secondary, and they will let it slide. So, I said, will there be any negative impact on the app process??? She said none whatsoever, just a statement of fact is all that is required.

So, I guess the underlying concept, is that it is important to call and make sure/clarify the requirements that you have to meet. DONT BE AFRAID TO CALL...
