Just bought my diagnostic kit from Ebay. Problem is, it doesn't include the Welch Allyn rechargeable battery. Does anyone know if a regular ol Radio Shack Ni-Cad rechargeable will work for these scopes or is it necessary to purchase directly from Welch Allyn?

Theoretically if you match the voltage and the battery can supply enough current (the amp/mA rating) it will work. You also need the same connector and you should be careful that the polarity is correct. If you take it to Radio Shack, they can probably tell you. Some of the WelchAllyn scopes also accept C batteries if that would be easier.

Most Welch Allyn kits have an adapter (silver ring) that you can use to use regular C batteries instead of the rechargable. You can go to their site (Google Search) and download the instructions on how to utilize that ring.

You can also order the rechargable battery (and a couple of extra bulbs) too from any medical supply site.
