My electives in Dermatology afforded me fascinating views on very interesting cases concerning malignant melanoma, particularly its management with external beam radiation therapy.

Firstly, the clinical and pathophysiologic conundrum: wasn't UV radiation exposure the correlated agent causing the lesion? What poetic justice or is it such a surprising therapeutic twist for radiation to itself the cure?

Secondly, please describe your own experience participating in dermatologic oncology tumor boards. What was the extent of overlap and/or if there was any discussion of scope of practice?

Best wishes to all,
Seasons :)

In the past the use of RT for treatment of dermatologic conditions was more common than today. Some Dermatologists had equipment in their offices to treat Basal and Squamous Cell Carcinoma.. it was often curative for these lesions. Also superficial Grenz rays were used for inflmmatory skin problems.Because other options are now available RT is usually reserved for difficult cases.
