I'm taking the MCAT for the 2nd time this August. Took it after TPR class, which didnt' work too great for me, and poor prep/personal problems last August; scored 26R.

Now I'm just doing the MCAT test only option, so I take practice tests on most weekends. My first diag was 25, which I wasn't too unhappy with, given that I'm doing almost no studying. (My briefly-held theory being that I didn't need to study too much for this test, but should try to relax more and look at the big picture). Next diag: 28, with a 3-point jump in verbal from 8 to 11. My third diag also: 28 total: 8P, 9B, 11V, which I was happy with.

Now I'm back down and demoralized: 11B, 6P, 8V. This is what happened to me last summer -- I'd bump up in one subject but fall in other(s). ANy thoughts??

I just don't want to go through the same experience again. I have a month left and want to really start hunkering down with my books; I work full-time, and have a 3-year old son, so it will be rough.

I know I need to learn the physics formulas and cover as much material as possible. I just feel like maybe I can't do this test. :-((( Or that maybe I should put it off until next April with better prep. I dunno....

i used TPR for the April test...to be honest with you...all my instructors were crappy except for the physics...I scored a 27 and So i have changed my test prep company for the august test.

I took the April MCAT after going through the Kaplan review course. I watched my PS (9-8-7) score slowly decline through the practice tests, as by bio score went up slowly (7-8-9), so I didn't know which subject to study. I ended up focusing more on the PS subjects, since I was so frightened by the decline, but I never really let the BS go. Utimately I ended up with a 10 on each.

I understand how hard it is to study while working full time, especially sicne you have the addes responsibility of your son. I would recommend sitting down to figure out which subjects you need to focus your time on, and just generally reviewingthe rest. Good luck!

You might consider the ExamKrackers Audio Osmosis CD set. They do a great job making things make sense, although you also need to study from books to be sure you properly apply what you learn, etc. I work full time & have a 2 1/2 year old and things are pretty busy. Being able to listen in addition to study has really helped. They are expensive but worth it. You might even be able to find somebody here that has a set you could borrow.

I;m going to post re: the tapes. I've heard of them, and I do commute to work on the subway, so who knows!
