I'm just saying that the myth of the best medical school keeps being perpetuated by us and by the school itself. They might receive the most dinero, but who can actually make a case that the training is better than at, say, Duke or Hopkins? Or even at UPenn, Yale, WashU?

Except for people bashing Harvard for thinking that it is the best, I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone claim that they are the best. When I was there to interview, they certainly thought they were good, but they had lots of good things to say about other programs. Certainly they feel that they are the best fit for some people, but they recognize that not everyone (even some of the best applicants) wants to be at Harvard. I see no reason to feel animosity towards them... That's all I'm saying.

I think this is some hatred spewing out b/c you did not get interviewed/accepted.
Hell, Harvard is great. Maybe a little overrated but still, great school. I didn't get interviewed and I am expecting my rejection anyday now. Who cares? In the long run, we'll still get good educations 🙂

it was animosity towards harvard that kept me from applying there for med school. they never rejected me - i got in undergrad. but that ego. it's a schoolwide thing. it's unbelievable. granted i went to a big rival so i'm biased. but i've never met a harvard kid who didn't have at least little teeny chip on their shoulder.
i do think this kind of bashing is irrational and probably irrelevant to the discussions on this page, but i thought i'd chime in. it's probably a great place to go to med school come to think of it....

I also say screw Harvard but my rationale is a bit different...
Harvard lost half of my freakin application and my attempts to correct the problem met alot of resistance on their behalf. As a result my application was finally complete only 2 weeks before they stopped sending out interview invites. I KNOW that they were backlogged earlier in the process, and I'm assuming that there were backlogged at the end as well. I am livid that I didn't at least get a fair shot just because some jerk in the admissions office refused to get off of his a$$ and help me out... So SCREW HARVARD.

Damn that sucks UCLA2000. You figure a school like Harvard would get their act together, but I've heard multiple stories like yours. Simply incompetent. SCREW HARVARD!

actually i interviewed at harvard and the people there (of course, not everyone) made me sick to my stomach. arrogance, elistism, and privilege abundant there. it might be a "great" school, but any school would be so if it had the same bank account. SCREW HARVARD!

ok ok if you insist. Harvard is overrated. Geez! alot those students are not very happy people. Freaking intense bunch. They even get upset when you don't go "uhh ahh!" about their school. I think they've sacrificed so much to be there that they look for justification in those "uhh! Ahh!s".
I actually feel sorry for them. That Vanderbilt hall dorm was freaking pathetic. They have communal bathrooms and kitchens. Damn that kitchen was gross; nastyness in the sink despite the "Clean-up after yourself, your mama doesn't work here" sign. Weather aside, Harvard is cold. Very impersonal (that was my biggest turn-off).

yea, well they are going to finish my last cornerpeice of the 'ivy rejection box' when that comes in, so hope they atleast buy some good quality toilet paper w/ my $.
As for the students, I can only go by the humblest, kindest, and most determined fellow pre-med I've met to judge them. He's the only person I know there 🙂

Harvard never sent me a secondary....kinda odd for a school that doesn't screen the primaries...I got the web link from a friend but honestly I figured if they didn't send me at least an email I would save my secondary fee..
