I just started a SDN pre-osteo group on facebook. Come and join.
hmmm..I found the group...now whether or not it is smart to link my name to my sdn name during the admissions process...
Just curious... why are you worried? Would the school look at it? I just though that this would be an easier way to get to know each other than going to the picture thread.
Yea, im worried I might say something stupid and a school may be able to link my name to my comments on SDN. Im not worried about picture since the chance of them matching the face is infinitely smaller.
some adcoms do lurk the site, and look into such things.
Just don't badmouth schools and you'll be fine.
p.s for DRKUBA...u didn't say anything stupid (you still have a chance though ),so do not panic, join the club
all these new SDN groups on facebook make me sad
i like consolidation Family group feel
so your not in?
well I'm going to have to join since I'm pre-osteo NOW aren't I. Its just silly to have like 10 different SDN groups.
i sincerely hope the adcoms have something better to do than to look at people's sdn comments and their facebooks lol.
if you are an adcom reading this... my real name is Max Steeeel. umm yea...
Yeah and mine is...ummm (Future) Dr. Kenneth Noisewater
Adcoms, don't search the site tracking people down.
But if your waitlisted at a school and they are on the fence about letting you in, i have heard of them searching things like this site, mdapplicants, and facebook.
It is not a reason to start mass paranoina, but if you're applying, don't totally badmouth a school.
well if you are bashing their school or giving inaccurate information about your school and they find out who you are, yes they will ask you about your "posts". It has been done before supposedly.
mushy, why are you NOW pre-osteo?
I've always been pre-osteo Its my first choice.
Its been a while since I posted in the Pre-Osteo forums, but this topic is near and dear to my heart. I applied last year and was offered an interview at my top choice: UNECOM. When I went in early in the morning to register with the admissions officers and let them know I was there to interview, the first question I was asked was if I was redwings54 from SDN? I was astounded that they could put my name and application with what I had posted on SDN. I laughingly admitted I was and asked if they had been keeping tabs on us on SDN? They said that they peruse the forums related to UNECOM and if they can identify someone, they sometimes do.
Shocked, I then had my interview, hung out with students and tried to really get a feel for the school. I was later accepted to UNECOM and will be matriculating there next fall. UNECOM had always been my first choice and I consistantly wrote about my desire to attend UNECOM, why I felt it was so great, why I wanted to be a doctor, my fears, my hopes and everything else one goes through in the admissions process. I truly believe that my postings on SDN made me stand out or at least be memorable. I was far from an incredible applicant with a 3.05 GPA, and a MCAT of 25. I did have some great extracurriculars, but I really believe my showing them how much I wanted to go to UNECOM helped me incredibly.
So take that for what its worth. Some schools do check. Students from every school are on here as well, and these same students are those who will be interviewing you and deciding on your file. So just as mshheaddoc stated, a great comment may or may not help you but bashing one school can deffinitely hurt you. Hope this helps.
I am surprised I didnt think many schools read SDN and if so not that closely. So NYCOM if you are reading this remember how your my #1, - #5 choice for next yr's applicants
wow thats awesome
My school also reads it....and when i interviewed at other schools..i mentioned that i was an SDN *****..and they all seemed to jot some notes as i said it...and i got accepted to both schools i interviewed at..NSU and AZCOM
I hope any schools that reads my posting doesnt reject me b/c of my poor grammar
LOL...i have to add myself to this list...my grammar AND speling really sucks ...
so if ADCOMS really do read this i want them to know that i am being tempted to apply to only one school (though i am being told this is a crazy idea)...CCOM.
FYI, I go to CCOM. We got an email from our dean of student affairs in the spring saying be careful what you put on, online things like facebook etc.
while not explicitly saying that they check; thats the feel I got
my spelling also leaves much to be desired but i blame spellcheck on that
well i hope i didn't post anything...ummm... stupid?
That's an intriuging story! I should try to post more in the school related forums, eh? Good luck and yes, I joined.
That's a great story... Congratulations!
