Hello everyone!

I am an incoming OMS-3, I know it may be too soon to look at residencies but I am trying to make a list for D.O. friendly away rotations. I would like to do away rotations are programs that I could be considered a candidate. At this point, I do not have a preference for region or state. I just want to work hard and obtain my training wherever that may be. I will not be taking step 1 so I am aware that the number of programs will be narrowed.
I would truly appreciate if any information could be provided or if anyone has experience with this specialty itself.

Thank you!!!!!

I would say most Med-Peds programs will be DO friendly, or at least have had DO residents in the past. Majority of programs are in the Mid-Atlantic and Mid-West which tends to be DO friendly. Prestigious programs like Harvard Mass Gen or Harvard BWH, University of Penn, University of Chicago, UCLA, Michigan, etc will be very competitive in general and likely won't be DO friendly

Geisinger was the only dually accredited AOA/ACGME Med-Peds residency before the merger of AOA/ACGME residencies
At present, only Western Michigan University Med-Peds program have the osteopathic recognition designation

This site has good resources and information about programs and student rotations

Real question is why do you want to do this in the first place

I see myself being an internist at a hospital. I also wish to subspecialize in Endocrinology. My overall goal is to eventually work at a community health center for low-income families and be able to serve both demographics. I understand that there is an overlap with family med when it comes to serving these 2 age groups but overall I wish to specialze.

Thank you so much for this information. I am from the east coast and I realize that most D.O. friendly programs are mostly where you mentioned. I will not be taking step 1 and am considering taking step 2 and comlex level 2. Therefore I will always try to aim for D.O. friendly programs. I will look into away rotation opportunities at these states as well. thank you!

Western Michigan University is very DO friendly.
