do the optional ones if you think you can add something worthwhile without bragging too much.

Does Harvard really not have essays on the secondary?

Drexel does not have a secondary essay.

[It was listed on the first page of the post but got lost by the last]

Hmmm, I don't know how optional the Tufts essay is... it seemed like they really wanted us to do that one.

u of cincinnati... you only have to talk about your traffic record!

If you're applying NP only, then you don't have to write an essay.. However, you have to write an essay for HST. Also if you're applying to dual-degree programs other than MD/PhD, then you have to write an essay.

With a prompt like that, at best it was "optional".

Why do you say that? As eternalrage pointed out, they really strongly imply that you shouldn't do it unless you genuinely have something additional you must tell them that doesn't appear elsewhere on your application. They even go so far as to say "most applicants will leave this blank"--of course, you could point out that most applicants aren't accepted, but it doesn't read like that's where they were going.

what about mayo?

Mayo's secondary is a phone call. They play 31 questions in 30 minutes, or that's what I've heard from lurking on SDN. Check out the interview response section where people post their interview experiences, a cheat sheet of questions are given there.

University of Rochester, essay post interview invite

I don't believe LSU shreveport has any essay (At least, their sample downloadable secondary does not).

What exactly is asked on the secondary, then?

GW its a ten line response.. you can do it in about an hour..

Michigan State (MSU) definitely has 3 essays and they give you a two week deadline

I can't believe Harvard and Penn do not have essays! I figured the ivy's would crush you with some obscure questions. As for the GW and Penn State, those "essays" were laughably short. I would consider them more of a short response than an actual essay. So if people really are using this thread to find out which schools they can lazily apply to, those two definately fit the bill.

Harvard only has a secondary for NP if you have already graduated. There is an essay for HST.

I believe UMass has 3 essays of unlimited length.....Umass application sucks in general.

I'm curious about people's opinion on the "optional" one for BU...

yes they do quite bluntly suggest they don't want to read anything...

then again... when i asked friends they suggested to put something there... it's not like they'll put it against you. So, I just submitted a thing that I wrote for a different secondary... meh... oh well just one of 21!! HAHA

What did you do about it?

**how wierd is it that their photo requirement size is so huge?!?!

also... from previous years, does anyone know if Indiana University has essays?

tufts is optional? i thought if you answer "yes" you have to write something. and "yes" is probably required for those 2 questions

I always hate when they make an essay optional but it's literally required if you don't want them to have a bad impression of you. Sucks to be playing the "med school application" game.

I believe UMass has 3 essays of unlimited length.....Umass application sucks in general.

I agree with this. What is up with using PeopleSoft, the most user-unfriendly program ever! Blech.

University of Arizona doesn't have any essays either.

WashU has an optional essay

Albert Einstein of Yeshiva University
Boston (optional essay)
Drexel
George Washington (8 liner about why GWU)
Harvard (New Pathway)
Indiana University
Jefferson (Optional 500 character statement)
Medical College of Wisconsin
MSU (essay after interview invite?)
Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC)
New York Medical College
NYU (essay for applicants who have been out of school)
Saint Louis University
SUNY Upstate
SUNY Buffalo
Tufts (Optional brief essay)
UCSF (optional update on activities)
UMDNJ - NJMS (no essay for instate applicants)
UMDNJ - Robert Wood Johnson
University of Oklahoma
University of Pennsylvania
University of Rochester
UT Galveston (no secondary, hence no essay)
UT Houston (no secondary, hence no essay)
UT San Antonio (no secondary, hence no essay)
Texas Tech
Washington University in St. Louis (2 optional - if you have completed your education, and if you have overcome any special challenges)
Wright State University Boonshoft SOM (Ohio)

George Washington's essay prompt is ten lines, not eight.

Where on earth are people getting this number (eight) from?? *confused*
