Secondaries

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, start as soon as they're sent to you. Try to have all of them out within 2-4 weeks of when the arrive. This shows enthusiasm for applying to their school. If you send it in 3 months later, admissions might think you place low priority on their school and probably wouldn't accept an acceptance. The whole job of the admissions committee is to choose the best body of students that they think will attend their school. *Disclaimer* Most of this is speculation, but I think it's a pretty solid theory.

As soon as they come in, start filling them out. Don't let them pile up or you will feel like you are drowning.

If they have them online adn you can access them before the school notifies you, then by all means start them so when the school contacts you they will be ready to mail in.

thanks for the replies!!!
I'm new to this, those it usually take a while for med schools to send you a secondary after submitting your AMCAS?

some you can do right away - yale, hopkins, columbia, tulane... sure i'm missing a slew of them...

and i would- i had a grace period of about 2-3 weeks and then got 2-3 a day for a week- week 1/2 and finally i'm down to 2 a week.

beware of northwestern and case western since they both have deadlines, though case's is manageable and not downright sneaky like northwestern's

hope this helps!

After submitting your AMCAS application when should I start on my secondaries?
start as soon as you can...give it a max of two weeks

definitely asap, and have letters of rec sent out as soon as you can too, b/c they won't look at the application until its complete...including the secondary, application fee paid, and LORs!
