Seeking advice about renting in PITTSBURGH, PA

Hi,

I am moving to Pittsburgh for an year to do fellowship at the UPMC. The training is mainly centered around UPMC-Presbyterian area (Oakland). I am looking to rent a 2-3 bedroom place in a decent neighbouhood within 5 miles of the hospital for $800-1100. Any advice as to which neighbourhood to look in or to avoid?

I was told to look at homes in Shadyside/Hazelwood/Greenfield/Squirrel Hill or Swissvale. I need to be close to the ER as I need a driving time of 10-15 mins to supervise residents running codes. Any advice or prior experiences are greatly appreciated.
