Hello:

I would like the opinion of physicians on several issues that have been troubling to me recently. I am going through a mini life-crisis; as I am struggling to find life's "answers" and put an end to my religious agnosticism, in favor of belief in a deity. I feel that I need to believe in the afterlife in order to be happy... but that's another matter. Here are my questions:

[In the context of the Mind vs. Body (Brain) Debate] - Is it at all conceivable that "mind" and "brain" are separate functions? Is it possible that human consciousness is a function of the "mind" rather than the brain?

Do you feel that one can believe in science and still believe in an afterlife?

Thank You

This thread is not the purpose of the physician forums on SDN. It is for discussion of issues related to residency, training, and practice. We have forums like "All Students" and "Topics in Healthcare" which are more suited for general topics. This thread is being closed.
