semester hours? Is that credit?

I was looking through the course requirements
and it says about the semester hours and quarter hours...
Are they talking about the credits?

ex. I need 8 semester hours of organic chemistry with laboratory / 12 quarter hours

so... I need 8 credits from the organic chemistry??
or just take the organic chemistry class for 8 hours?
It's so confusing

It's my first year of college ..

8 credits...orgo I inclu lab(4.0) and orgo II including lab (4.0)...

like the poster above said... basically you have to take organic I and organic II and any corresponding labs. at my school there is a 3 credit lab attached to organic II. therefore, I had 9 hours of organic total.

and yes, semester hours and credit hours are the same thing.
